Working Teaching English on
Phuket
There will be plenty of time for
surfing and hanging out on the
beach, but right now let's
look for work!
Important:
Only the very worst jobs in
Thailand and Phuket hire direct
from overseas. And, the
ones that do, usually do
it as their reputation is so
poor locally that no one will
apply.
What does that mean? It
means you need to be ON THE
SCENE and apply for jobs in
person and be ready to show up
for an interview today or
tomorrow.
Don't bother
trying to line up a job from
overseas - it won't work.
Employers here already know
about wishful thinking and
people who dream about coming
here and never show up.
They want to see you IN PERSON.
HERE. NOW. They just
want to know that you are here
and ready to go to work.
Private
and public schools are are the
largest employers of EFL
teachers on Phuket, if you count
numbers.
Kajonkietsuksa
now employs over 100 native
speakers. You won't find
similar numbers at other
schools, but some such as
Satree Phuket School
and
Dara Samuth Phuket employ many native speakers.
The
Phuket Has Been Good To Us
Foundation is another
regular employer of qualified
teachers.
Hotels and resorts also hire
teachers and these may be the
preferred jobs as you would tend
to teach smaller numbers of
students. These employers
though will often prefer to hire
older teachers as you may be
teaching middle-aged or older
students and respect in Thai
culture is also age-based.
Hotel and resort teaching Jobs here are
some of the best to be found anywhere.

inside track on those jobs:

Language schools are
often looking for teachers.
Look for language schools in the
Gazette Guide.
The
Phuket Gazette Classifieds
have a search function -
"Recruitment" is the term used
here - and you can search as far
as 75 days back. Don't
ignore those old jobs, maybe the
new hire didn't work out, or is
getting ready to move on.
Far better to hunt down the job
BEFORE it is advertised.
Check also the classified pages
of the
Phuket Post.
Even better, check our
Thailand Jobs page
The
Gazette Guide section of the
Phuket Gazette also has
something similar to a "Yellow
Pages" where you can look up
local schools, their addresses
and telephone numbers - ALL in
English.
Here are a few OLD
job adverts from
for a bit of fantasy
